Safe Haven Program Qualifications & Application
The Safe Haven Program serves only those who qualify as being chronically homeless, or homeless for a period of one year or longer, or four or more times in three consecutive years. Individuals must have some form of income, either through employment or government benefits, as they pay subsidized rent. In addition, they must be able to live in a community environment. Safe Haven I
Opened in December of 2006, the newly completed Safe Haven Supportive Housing Program is the first of its kind in Anne Arundel County and serves up to four chronically homeless and disabled individuals. This program utilizes the “Housing First” approach, an idea that states that the first task to addressing chronic homelessness is to provide positive and permanent shelter. Many of our clients are without the capability to live independently. Without a safe residence, they find themselves unable to deal with other recurring issues. The Safe Haven provides a comfortable and safe environment for these clients to become self-sufficient by eliminating the constant stress of homelessness. The Case Manager and Resident Manager work with clients in obtaining and maintaining their independence and to ensuring their safety and success.
Safe Haven II
In the spring of 2009, Arundel House of Hope announced the opening of Safe Haven II in Severna Park. Like Safe Haven I, the home offers a nurturing environment to five formerly homeless and disabled men with the support services of a Case Manager and Resident Manager.
W.I.S.H. (Women in Safe Haven) Program
In 2008, Arundel House of Hope opened the first permanent affordable housing program for adult, homeless women in Anne Arundel County. Through the generous support of our member organizations, a single family home in Brooklyn Park was acquired and now houses up to five chronically homeless women and a Resident Manager. This program is structured to provide a supportive and nurturing atmosphere where women experiencing homelessness can work on addressing their most pressing issues, eventually leading to self-sufficiency and independence.
W.I.S.H II (Women in Safe Haven) Program
In the summer of 2011, Arundel House of Hope opened a second supportive housing program for women. It is located in Glen Burnie, near the Day and Resource Center. W.I.S.H. II is a hybrid house, meaning it follows the requirements of Safe Haven, but is also modeled after a community housing program. W.I.S.H. II can house up to three chronically homeless women and a Resident Manager.
How do I get into The W.I.S.H. Program?
Case management is currently reviewing applications for The W.I.S.H. Program. Qualified applicants include single women without children, or without custody of their children. Candidates must be chronically homeless. (meaning for a period of one year or longer, or four or more times in the past three years) The WISH Program is affordable housing so residents must have some form of income either through employment or government support. There is no minimum income requirement to qualify for the program and rent for the program is based on the client’s income.
